    A total of 139 SMEs from 21 countries have been awarded IPA4SME support services through the Open Call. Depending on their support services, the selected SMEs will now have the opportunity to receive free IP pre-diagnostic services as well partial reimbursement of EPO and Patent attorney fees. The Coordination Centre is actively supporting these SMEs throughout their respective support service processes.

    We would like to announce that due to the overwhelming response to the first cut-off date of the IPA4SME Action, the initially allocated budget is not sufficient to provide support to all of the services requested by the applicants. For this reason, new Rules for Implementation are being defined in order to increase budget flexibility in the future.

    On May 23 the first IPA4SME webinar took place. With more than 60 participants, the attendance greatly exceeded expectations and shows the continued interest of SMEs and stakeholders in the actions of IPA4SME and the valorization of SMEs’ intellectual property as a whole.

    The European Commission recently extended the deadline of its consultation on EU legislation on design protection. The new deadline is April 15, 2019.

    The consultation is meant especially for the following groups:

    1. All sectors of industry, businesses and designers owning/creating designs (including design and creative industries, small and medium sized enterprises, individual designers);
